Many people are unaware that they are putting their dogs’ health at risk by shaving the coat during the hot summer months. I’ve heard all the reasons, and they all sound legit. For example, one lady told me that she thought it was like wearing a fur coat during the summer so she would get her Golden Retriever shaved every summer. It sounds like a good reason, but it isn’t. It is much better to brush and card the coat of a medium, double-coated dog rather than shave the coat. In this issue of The Furrific Times, our quarterly newsletter, I address this issue and give a couple of examples of some short haircuts that can be done as an alternative to shaving.
